Ice Capades from 1947
These fragments from the 1947 edition of the Ice Capades as presented at Boston Garden give glimpses of ice skating as entertainment for audiences in the early post-World War II time frame. The quality of the film is uneven, but expert skaters with consummate gracefulness can be clearly discerned. The skits range from romantic ballets to dramatic solo performances to slapstick comedy, a sure fire combination for drawing audiences of couples and families. When you think about it, what we see here may not be altogether different from what we might see today.
