My first journey to Scotland, in 1965, was to visit with my cousin, John Glennie Frederick MacGregor, and his wife, Jessie. I stayed with them at Park House in the village of Bellabeg in Strathdon for about 2 weeks. Coincidentally, I arrived in late August, the time of the Lonach, a local festival highlighting a morning march of clansmen to mansions of the landed gentry followed by an afternoon of Highlands games. Fred, a Scotsman to the core who played his bagpipes daily and entertained us nightly with tales of Scottish lore and legend, obtained a kilt in the Forbes tartan and tunic so that I might march in the Lonach, continuing a tradition that must have harkened back for more than a century in the Glennie and Reid families. Many of the photos you will see are from my day living the Lonach, while others are of the Strathdon area and westwards towards Inverness and Loch Ness.
